When we bought this home in 2016, it was already zoned for building an ADU, as well as having an unfinished basement. In order to help cover costs of some necessary updates, we started by turning the unfinished basement into a 1 bed 1 bath apartment. Once that was completed, we were able to rent it out for short term rentals, creating an income stream and allowing us upgrade the electrical, sewer line, water line, and HVAC.
